P19 Payment Award: Pioneers of modern payment transactions honoured

>
The winners of the P19 Payment Awards have been announced. At the P19 Neujahrsevent on Tuesday, projects, pioneers and newcomers who are strengthening Europe's payment transactions and driving the economy forward were honoured. This time, the awards went to Taxefy, Ecolytiq and Bluecode CEO Christian Pirkner.

Vienna, 30 January 2025 – On Tuesday, the Neujahrsevent of the P19 payment initiative took place at k47 in Vienna. Numerous industry experts, innovators and decision-makers came together to discuss the future of payments and recognise groundbreaking achievements with the P19 Payment Award. "P19 is not just a platform – it is a movement that makes payment transactions more secure, efficient and sustainable. At a time when technologies such as the digital euro, blockchain, instant payments and AI-based fraud prevention are revolutionising the financial world, we provide a stage to discuss these trends and drive them forward together," explained the P19 initiative team led by Birgit Kraft-Kinz, Martin Sprengseis-Kogler and Max Jürschik. In addition to the award ceremony, the programme also included keynotes and panel discussions on topics such as the digital euro and regulation, as well as payment in the retail, tourism and mobility industries. Speakers included Philipp Bohrn (Bitpanda), Bernd Datler (ASFINAG), State Secretary for Tourism Susanne Kraus-Winkler, Christoph Heinzle (Unzer), Anita Paic (Vienna Tourist Board), Bernd Fletzberger (PFR Rechtsanwälte) and Petia Niederländer (Austrian National Bank).

Awards for exemplary projects and innovative minds
The award-winning projects, companies and individuals – selected by a jury of experts from the finance, commerce and technology sectors, among others – have had a lasting impact on payment transactions in Europe through their groundbreaking ideas and commitment. Taxefy was awarded in the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ category. The Austrian app enables employees to complete their tax returns quickly and paperlessly. By answering specific questions, the app calculates the expected tax refund and transmits the data securely and reliably to the relevant tax office. The award for ‘Payment Project of the Year’ went to a project by Berlin-based fintech company ecolytiq, which offers banks and financial service providers a ‘sustainability as a service’ solution. Together with HSBC UK and Visa, ecolytiq has introduced a carbon insights tool for small businesses that enables customers to track the CO2 emissions of their debit card transactions. The ‘Pioneer of the Year’ award went to Christian Pirkner, CEO of mobile payment company Bluecode. With his experience from Silicon Valley, the Swiss-born entrepreneur founded Bluecode to create a Europe-wide smartphone payment system. The focus is on protecting privacy and complying with strict European data protection guidelines.

Innovation and collaboration for the future of payments
P19 now brings together more than 1,200 payment pioneers from a wide range of industries. The platform's goal is to actively shape the future of payments through collaboration, innovation and sustainability. With formats such as the Neujahrsevent, the Payment Festival and the regular Payment Circles, P19 offers a space for the exchange of ideas, best practices and solutions. Birgit Kraft-Kinz sums it up: ‘The world of payments is facing enormous change. With P19, we are creating the basis for working together on solutions that create real added value for everyone involved – from companies to end customers.’ Following the successful Neujahrsevent, attention is now turning to upcoming highlights, including the Payment Festival, which attracted hundreds of guests to Vienna's Sofiensäle last year and will take place on 25 November this year. Together with its partners, P19 intends to continue providing decisive impetus to make Europe's payment transactions secure, sustainable and innovative.
