New rules, new technologies: why Europe's payment landscape is on the verge of a turning point

The transformation of payment transactions is in full swing. The zeb Payment Study 2025 shows that digital payments are on the rise, while cash is being used less and less. At the P19 Payment Circle, participants discussed how banks, businesses and consumers can actively and safely shape this transformation.

P19 Payment Award: Pioneers of modern payment transactions honoured

The winners of the P19 Payment Awards have been announced. At the P19 Neujahrsevent on Tuesday, projects, pioneers and newcomers who are strengthening Europe's payment transactions and driving the economy forward were honoured. This time, the awards went to Taxefy, Ecolytiq and Bluecode CEO Christian Pirkner.

 

P19 Payment Festival: The future of payment between cash and digital solutions

How is payment transactions changing? Does cash have a future? And how can digital and sustainable solutions include all social groups? These questions shaped the P19 Payment Festival 2024 in Vienna, where more than 70 experts from the financial world and a total of around 600 guests discussed trends, opportunities and challenges for the future of payment.

Innovative payment solutions ensure economic success at the European Football Championship

With the help of secure and fast payment methods, the 2024 European Football Championship promises to be a real boom for retail, tourism, hospitality and other sectors. The future of payments at major sporting events was the topic of the second P19 Payment Circle.

P19 on cash limits: Cash remains important for payment transactions and inclusion

From 2027, a limit of €10,000 will apply to all cash payments in the 27 EU member states. The payment platform P19 welcomes the new regulation to protect consumers and emphasises the importance of cash for the diversity of payment transactions in Austria.
 

Payment in transition: P19 Neujahrsevent highlights cash and the digital euro

From cash to the digital euro: the future of payments brings new opportunities and challenges. These will be explored in keynotes and discussions at the P19 Neujahrsevent on 30 January. Projects for the P19 Payment Award can be submitted until 11 January.
